St Joseph’s Home
Description
The cycle of poverty is relentless. A woman who wants to support herself and her children needs a decent job. To secure a job, she needs education. To pursue education, she needs a stable home and trusted childcare. Without these, the cycle continues—swallowing families and generations.
At the York Street Project, we confront this cycle head-on. We address both the visible barriers—education, housing, and childcare—and the hidden challenges like trauma, loss of self-esteem, and developmental delays in children. By tackling these interconnected issues simultaneously, we empower women and their families to build self-sufficient, fulfilled lives.
Our network of programs provides a one-stop support system:
St. Joseph’s Home – A safe, structured living environment for single mothers and their children, guiding them toward independence.
St. Mary’s Residence – Affordable housing and supportive community for working women with limited incomes.
The Nurturing Place – A year-round, licensed early childhood development center serving children from 4 months to 6 years old while their mothers work or attend school.
Through this holistic approach, the York Street Project offers not just shelter and resources, but also hope, healing, and a path to break the cycle of poverty for good.
