Description

Holy Ground began in 2008, inspired by Fr. Seamus Murtagh, then-pastor of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in West Palm Beach, who recognized the urgent need to address the growing population of individuals living on the streets during his morning walks. While St. Ann’s was already serving people experiencing homelessness, Fr. Murtagh understood that more comprehensive and lasting solutions were necessary. This realization led him to convene a community gathering focused on homelessness, which sparked the formation of a committed group of volunteers dedicated to making a meaningful difference.

Officially established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2009, Holy Ground Shelter for Homeless, Inc.—now Holy Ground PBC—focused its mission on one of Palm Beach County’s most vulnerable and underserved populations: young pregnant and parenting women and their children. Recognizing the severe shortage of shelter beds and support services for these young families, Holy Ground sought to fill this critical gap. Many young mothers face long waiting lists for shelter, often forcing them to seek help far from home or, tragically, leaving them without any resources at all.

Since welcoming its first young family in 2011, Holy Ground PBC has expanded its reach and impact, now operating two residential campuses in West Palm Beach and Lake Park. Alongside safe, stable housing, Holy Ground provides a broad range of wraparound services tailored to empower clients toward self-sufficiency. These services include life skills training, counseling, educational support, and career development, helping young women overcome trauma, rebuild their lives, and secure meaningful employment. Graduates of the program have gone on to successful careers in fields such as teaching, banking, healthcare, childcare, and insurance.

Holy Ground PBC remains steadfast in its commitment to transform lives by providing hope, healing, and opportunity to young families experiencing homelessness. Through compassionate care, community collaboration, and holistic support, Holy Ground creates pathways for lasting independence and brighter futures in Palm Beach County.
