Homeless Intervention Services of Orange County, HIS-OC
Description
Since 1989, Homeless Intervention Services of Orange County (HIS-OC) has been a beacon of hope for unhoused and housing-insecure families in Orange County. The organization’s roots trace back to a compassionate initiative by Placentia Presbyterian Church, which advocated for a local family in crisis by purchasing a farmhouse that became the HIS House transitional shelter.
Over nearly 35 years, HIS-OC’s transitional housing program has expanded, offering private bedrooms for families within a shared home environment. On-site weekly case management supports families with job skills and placement assistance, access to physical and mental health services, help with documentation, family reunification programs, parenting classes, and financial literacy education.
In 2020, HIS House formally became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit under the new name HIS-OC to broaden its impact beyond transitional sheltering. Today, HIS-OC continues to implement innovative programs designed to empower more individuals and families to overcome homelessness, achieve lasting independence, and thrive in stable housing.
