Founded in 1985 as a community-led response to the growing homelessness crisis, the Somerville Homeless Coalition (SHC) continues to serve as a beacon of hope for individuals and families in need. What began with the opening of Somerville’s first emergency shelter has grown into a multi-program agency that touches over 7,400 lives each year.

SHC provides a full continuum of services, including an Adult Shelter, Food Program, and Homelessness Prevention services, as well as Affordable Housing with Supportive Services. Their work helps the most at-risk individuals and families move from crisis to stability through customized support and permanent housing solutions.

Guided by a mission to offer individualized services and tailored housing options, SHC is deeply rooted in the community and powered by values of compassion, inclusion, and respect.
