Food@First connects neighbors who need groceries with food and household essentials at First Congregational Church of Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California. The neighborhood distribution brings together donated food and seasonal produce grown in the church’s Urban Farm and Cathedral Gardens. It is a recurring grocery pickup, with to-go meals also included in the church’s food-sharing program.
To receive food, join the distribution line and volunteers will fill your bag. Food@First welcomes neighbors without questioning them about their need. Supplies are handed out in arrival order, so the selection depends on what remains when you reach the volunteers. Bring a reusable bag if you have one; the church encourages their use and makes market bags through its sewing club.
The Food@First program offers a mix of fresh produce, protein, canned foods and other pantry staples, along with hygiene items when available. A separate diaper distribution accompanies the first monthly pickup. Available sizes and quantities vary, including supplies for newborns, older babies and adults; ask about the size you need rather than assuming it will be stocked.
Call the church to confirm the pickup time and entrance before traveling. For additional food and household support, explore NHREA’s federal assistance guide alongside this neighborhood resource.
