Center For the Homeless

The Center for the Homeless is South Bend’s largest residential facility for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Opened in 1988, it serves men, women, children, and veterans through programs and resources intended to help guests break the cycle of homelessness.

Its campus includes a residential building, administrative offices, a children’s natural play area, community garden, recreation center, universal sports court, and the Robert L. Miller Sr. Veteran’s Center. Programming includes early childhood support, after-school activities, adult education and job training, dining services, and emergency services.

Adult guests work with a coach to create a self-sufficiency plan with goals tailored to their circumstances. Coaches help connect guests with services and community resources, including assistance related to medical appointments and benefits, as well as individual therapy.
