Central California Family Crisis
Description
Breaking the Cycle of Domestic Violence and Homelessness in Porterville
Founded in 1977 by Mary Baker and a group of concerned local citizens, our organization began with a simple mission: to provide emergency shelter, food, and clothing to homeless families in our rural community. As we served more families, we discovered a heartbreaking truth—many of these individuals, especially women and children, were also victims of domestic violence.
Determined to meet this urgent need, we raised funds to purchase a three-bedroom home in the 1980s, eventually expanding into a larger facility to accommodate over 800 victims annually. Today, we offer comprehensive services that include emergency shelter, counseling, advocacy, and support programs designed to help families escape abuse, heal from trauma, and achieve lasting independence.
Our commitment remains clear: to provide safety, hope, and a path to a better future for every individual and family we serve.
