Description

The Food Bank of West Central Texas, based in Abilene, has been dedicated to fighting hunger and feeding hope in a 13-county region of West Central Texas since 1983. Their mission is to procure and distribute nutritious food to individuals and families facing food insecurity through a network of over 150 partner agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters. Beyond traditional food distribution, they operate programs like the BackPacks for Kids initiative, providing weekend meals for children; Mobile Pantries, reaching rural and underserved communities; Senior Pantries, offering supplemental food to seniors; and Food Rescue, salvaging usable food from retailers. In 2024, they distributed over 5 million pounds of food, demonstrating their vital role in addressing hunger in the Big Country. Their work is supported by volunteers, financial contributions, and food donations, all working towards a hunger-free West Central Texas.
