Greater Birmingham Humane Society

Located at 300 Snow Drive in Birmingham, Alabama, Greater Birmingham Humane Society promotes the humane treatment of people and animals through education, advocacy, and services. Its work includes animal rescue, adoption, and rehabilitation, with resources intended to help pets remain in safe, loving homes.

Through its pet resources program, GBHS offers support that may help address challenges before surrender, including preventive care, identification and microchipping, behavioral and training support, medical grooming, short-term emergency boarding in certain circumstances, and humane sheltering solutions. The organization also provides guidance for direct rehoming and surrender requests; visit the official site for current program details and procedures.

GBHS also participates in the Greater Good GOODS Program, which helps make low-cost pet food and supplies available to animal-welfare organizations. Readers seeking broader assistance can also consult NHREA’s Alabama homeless assistance resources and federal assistance resources.
