Homeward NYC (dba of West End Residences HDFC, Inc.)
Description
Founded in 1989 with one of New York State’s first mixed-age residences, Homeward NYC has a rich history of providing transitional housing to homeless young mothers and long-term affordable housing for low-income and homeless older adults. Originating as the West End Intergenerational Residence, the organization evolved to address emerging needs, including trauma-centered supportive housing for LGBTQ youth through the pioneering True Colors Residences in West Harlem and the Bronx, developed in partnership with Grammy-award winning artist and LGBTQ advocate Cyndi Lauper. In 2020, rebranded as Homeward NYC, the organization offers comprehensive support services, including case management, counseling, referrals, community-building, and tailored life skills programs like the Women’s Empowerment and True Colors Empowerment initiatives, all designed to empower New York City’s most vulnerable homeless individuals and families.
