PATH
Description
Founded in 1983 after a heartfelt call to action by Claire and Rev. Charles Orr, PATH (People Assisting The Homeless) began as a grassroots community response to the growing homelessness crisis. On December 8, 1983, sixty dedicated individuals gathered to strategize how to support people experiencing homelessness in their neighborhoods. From distributing food and clothing on the streets to becoming a statewide leader in housing solutions, PATH has evolved dramatically over the past 40 years.
Embracing the nationally recognized Housing First model—which prioritizes permanent housing before stabilization services—PATH has become a pioneer in providing innovative, compassionate care. Today, PATH operates in over 150 cities across five regions, managing more than 70 locations and developing over 2,700 units of permanent supportive housing. Each year, PATH connects 26,000 individuals to vital supportive services including street outreach, interim housing, housing placement, employment assistance, mental health care, veteran services, and substance use treatment. Since 2013 alone, PATH has successfully helped over 25,000 people secure permanent homes. Dedicated to ending homelessness for individuals, families, and entire communities, PATH continues to transform lives through housing, services, and advocacy across the state.
