Description

Founded in 1979, the Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness emerged from a coalition of shelter providers, city officials, advocates, and community members united to address the growing crisis of homelessness. Our mission is to mobilize the community to confront and dismantle the systemic causes of homelessness while advocating tirelessly for housing justice throughout King County.

Our vision is a region where everyone shares a collective responsibility to ensure that every individual has a safe, stable home. We are guided by core values of equity, justice, and collective action: centering racial equity in our work to combat the disproportionate impact of structural racism on homelessness; upholding the dignity and civil rights of those experiencing housing insecurity; and fostering collaboration to build collective power.

Our coalition includes a wide network of organizational members—from emergency shelters and transitional housing providers to permanent supportive housing agencies, local government bodies, public housing authorities, faith-based organizations, and advocacy groups. Importantly, people with lived experience of homelessness are integral to our work, helping shape strategies that impact the 27,000+ people experiencing homelessness in King County each year.
