The Union Mission
Description
Recognizing the vital role it plays in both crisis intervention and long-term solutions, Union Mission is dedicated to making homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring in Westmoreland County. As a key Coordinated Entry site, Union Mission ensures fair and equal access to housing assistance, helping individuals and families quickly connect with the resources they need.
At first contact, Union Mission works to prevent homelessness by engaging natural supports like friends, family, and community connections. When prevention is not possible, the Mission provides emergency shelter and structured supportive programs tailored to meet the unique needs of homeless men, women, and families through partnerships and direct services.
The shelter experience includes counseling, case management, life skills training, spiritual development, and educational opportunities—all designed to foster character development, community bonds, and personal growth. Union Mission acts as a critical stepping stone, helping guests transition back into stable, productive lives.
To ensure lasting success, Union Mission offers up to six months of free counseling and ongoing case management during residents’ transitions to permanent housing. The Mission also employs proven housing strategies such as Rapid Rehousing, Permanent Supportive Housing, and Shared Housing to address the complex needs of chronically homeless individuals.
Permanent Supportive Housing at Union Mission pairs affordable housing with voluntary support services—including healthcare, treatment, and employment assistance—helping residents build independent living skills and move toward self-sufficiency.
Through compassionate care, community collaboration, and comprehensive housing programs, Union Mission is committed to restoring dignity and stability to those experiencing homelessness in Westmoreland County.
