Description

UPLIFT San Diego is a nonprofit founded in 1987 to advance community equity through free academic improvement and housing stability programs. Its work supports low-income students and people experiencing homelessness, with a focus on breaking cycles of poverty through practical assistance and community connection. Learn more about the organization’s mission on the official UPLIFT San Diego website.

Programs include one-to-one tutoring that supports academic achievement and literacy, along with young adult mentoring focused on leadership and life skills. UPLIFT also works to remove obstacles on the path to housing through volunteer advocacy and support connected to professional case management.

Through its Be a Friend program, UPLIFT connects volunteers with people transitioning out of homelessness for meaningful one-to-one friendships that foster encouragement, belonging, and reduced isolation. There is no faith affiliation requirement to receive services from or serve with UPLIFT. For additional information, visit NHREA’s California homeless assistance resources and federal assistance resources, and consult UPLIFT’s official website for current program details.
