Description
Mt. Carmel Redevelopment Corporation (MCRC): Building Homes, Empowering Lives, Strengthening Community
Founded in 1994 with just $200 and a bold vision, the Mt. Carmel Redevelopment Corporation (MCRC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to the revitalization of the Mt. Carmel neighborhood in the heart of Kansas City, Kansas. What began with a four-square-block master plan has since evolved into a thriving community initiative focused on affordable housing, supportive services, and holistic neighborhood transformation.
MCRC has already constructed and sold 16 of 48 planned single-family homes designed for low, moderate, and middle-income buyers, and has developed key facilities including:
The Breidenthal Community Center
A 61-unit Senior Housing Facility
Three transitional housing duplexes serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness
Beyond housing, MCRC offers a comprehensive range of human services, including:
A food pantry
Transitional housing and homeownership programs
Strengths-based case management
Crisis intervention & budget counseling
Education, motivation, and client advocacy
Senior outreach services
MCRC also manages the Wilhelmina Gill Multi-Service Center in partnership with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas.
As a designated Community-Based Housing Development Organization (CHDO), MCRC is committed to accountability and inclusion, reserving at least one-third of its board seats for residents from low- to moderate-income neighborhoods.
At MCRC, we believe that true revitalization goes beyond buildings—it’s about uniting brick-and-mortar development with human services to create lasting, community-driven change.
