Description

The Community for Creative Non-Violence (CCNV) is dedicated to ensuring that the rights of the homeless and poor in Washington, DC are protected and that every individual has access to life’s most basic essentials—food, shelter, clothing, and medical care. Our mission goes beyond immediate relief: we advocate for the underserved and prepare homeless men and women to re-enter society as skilled, productive, and independent citizens.
At the heart of our services is the 1,350-bed Federal City Shelter, the largest and most comprehensive facility of its kind in America. This shelter provides safe and secure housing for individuals in need, making CCNV a cornerstone of support for those experiencing homelessness in the nation’s capital.
In addition to shelter, CCNV provides clothing, shoes, and meals to residents through generous community donations. Thousands of pounds of clothing are distributed each year, and surplus items are sold at The Treasure Chest Thrift Store, when designated by donors, to further support our mission.
As a leading advocate for the homeless, CCNV combines direct services with systemic advocacy, ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive both the immediate care they need and the long-term opportunities to rebuild their lives. If you are seeking a homeless shelter in Washington, DC or looking to support an organization committed to justice, dignity, and compassion, CCNV continues to be a trusted leader in the fight to end homelessness.
