Founded in 1972 by local faith communities as the “Community Ministry of Montgomery County,” IW began by coordinating temporary shelter efforts through volunteer-led congregational support.

Though not a religious organization, Interfaith Works remains grounded in its founding ethos of collective commitment to ensuring every neighbor has a chance to find stability and thrive. Serving primarily residents at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Line, many of whom face homelessness or housing insecurity, IW has expanded and adapted its programs over five decades to meet evolving community needs.
