Affordable Homes of South Texas, Inc.
Description
For over 47 years, this organization has made people their central focus, beginning in the 1970s by addressing substandard housing conditions in McAllen, Texas. Early efforts helped families living with dirt floors, outhouses, and unsafe homes. Throughout the 1980s, the organization built new homes for low-income families while continuing home repair and replacement programs. The 1990s brought expansion beyond McAllen into Hidalgo County, broadening their reach and impact. The 2000s marked a new phase, including subdivision development and HUD-approved counseling services, further supporting families’ paths to homeownership and stability. As the organization enters its 48th year in 2024, it proudly estimates having served over 4,700 families, continuing its mission to provide safe, affordable housing and critical services to families in need.
