Description

Connections for the Homeless – Ending Homelessness in Northern Cook County Since 1984

Since 1984, Connections for the Homeless has been a driving force in the effort to end homelessness across the northern suburbs of Cook County, Illinois. For nearly 40 years, we have remained committed to supporting individuals and families who are unstably housed, experiencing housing insecurity, or facing the threat of homelessness. Our work is grounded in compassion, equity, and the firm belief that housing is a basic human right.

Serving approximately 5,000 people every year, Connections provides a wide range of holistic, person-centered services that help people find and maintain stable housing. From street outreach and emergency shelter to eviction prevention, permanent supportive housing, and case management, our programs are designed to meet individuals where they are and help them move toward stability and independence. Whether someone is experiencing chronic homelessness, recently lost their home, or is at risk of eviction, we are here to provide support every step of the way.

Our impact in northern Cook County is both deep and wide-reaching. We work in partnership with local governments, social service providers, healthcare agencies, volunteers, and generous donors to strengthen the housing safety net for our most vulnerable neighbors. At the same time, we advocate for systemic change and increased investment in affordable housing resources, recognizing that homelessness is not just an individual crisis but a community issue that requires collective action.

Connections has built a reputation for compassionate, effective, and innovative service delivery. By combining emergency response with long-term solutions, we not only address immediate needs but also tackle the root causes of homelessness. Our trauma-informed and equity-driven approach ensures that every person we serve is treated with dignity, respect, and understanding.

Our mission is clear: to end homelessness, one person at a time. Over the past four decades, we’ve helped tens of thousands of people rebuild their lives and secure permanent housing—and we continue to lead with that same energy and determination today.
