APLA Health’s Vance North Necessities of Life Program (NOLP) offers free groceries and nutrition education for qualifying low-income people living with HIV in Los Angeles County. This pantry is at the David Geffen Health Center in Koreatown, in Los Angeles, California. Grocery bags include a changing selection of produce, frozen meat, dairy products and shelf-stable foods, with hygiene and cleaning supplies also available through the program.
Enrollment requires photo identification, the NOLP registration form, income and residency information or self-certification, and a nutrition requirement. Nutrition options include completing a short nutrition document, attending a class or meeting with a dietitian. New clients also need proof of HIV diagnosis. Contact NOLP about the current income guidelines and which documents apply to your situation; the registration form includes self-certification options and asks people without housing for the ZIP code of the area where they stay.
Enrolled clients may collect groceries no more than once a week. Bring your NOLP card or picture identification for pickup. If you cannot collect groceries yourself, ask about the Alternative Pick Up Request Form so another person can collect them on your behalf. Clients who are unhoused or cannot safely store or refrigerate groceries can ask about kitchenless meal bags containing ready-to-eat foods. Dietary substitutions may be available; discuss your needs with the nutrition team.
Use the pantry’s dedicated distribution schedule rather than the health center’s building hours. The pantry closes on the first Friday of each month, and holiday or unexpected changes may affect other dates. Review NOLP’s program and enrollment information and contact the team before visiting. For other basic-needs programs with separate eligibility rules, see NHREA’s federal assistance guide.
