Description

Lucy’s Hearth is an emergency and transitional shelter in Newport County serving children and families experiencing homelessness. Its Middletown facility at 19 Valley Road includes individual family efficiency units with bathrooms and kitchenettes, along with shared spaces such as a commercial kitchen, dining room, TV room, playgrounds, learning center, and confidential staff offices.

The shelter helps families work toward permanent, affordable housing and greater self-sufficiency. Services include goal planning, life-skills groups, financial literacy, parenting education, housing locator training, landlord-tenant education, case management, and referrals to community resources for health care, education, job training, and mental health care.

Lucy’s Hearth also supports children through coordination with schools, childcare providers, and youth programs, as well as on-site and off-site activities. Its programs include permanent supportive housing and outreach and aftercare assistance for former residents. Visit the official Lucy’s Hearth website for program details. Additional resources are available through NHREA’s Rhode Island homeless assistance guide and federal assistance resources.
