Ozanam Inn – Providing Hope, Shelter, and Support to the Homeless in New Orleans
Ozanam Inn is a trusted, non-profit, direct service agency dedicated to serving the homeless and underserved populations of Greater New Orleans. Committed to compassion, dignity, and inclusivity, Ozanam Inn offers essential services free of charge, regardless of an individual’s gender, race, color, creed, religion, or national origin.
Established in 1955 by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the Inn is named in honor of Frédéric Ozanam, the founder of the Society in 1852. Rooted in the values of faith, charity, and human dignity, Ozanam Inn has spent nearly seven decades providing life-saving resources to thousands of individuals in need.
A Safe Haven in the Heart of New Orleans
At its newly renovated and expanded facility located at 2239 Poydras Street, Ozanam Inn now has the capacity to shelter up to 156 individuals each night—including 97 men and 59 women. This new, much larger space, acquired in December 2020 after the sale of the previous Camp Street location, allows the Inn to serve more people in need than ever before.
Each overnight guest at Ozanam Inn receives:
A clean, safe bed for the night
Access to a hot shower with provided toiletries and hygiene supplies
A warm, nutritious supper and breakfast
Fresh, clean pajamas to sleep in
Welcoming Women for the First Time in Our History
One of the most significant milestones in Ozanam Inn’s history came with the move to the Poydras Street location: for the first time ever, the Inn now provides on-site shelter and services for women. Previously, due to space limitations, the organization relied on paid-for vouchers at nearby facilities to accommodate female clients. Now, with dedicated dormitories and 59 beds for women, Ozanam Inn proudly offers a safe, welcoming environment for all individuals—regardless of gender.
This long-awaited expansion represents the fulfillment of a decades-long dream: to ensure that women experiencing homelessness have access to the same dignified care and support as their male counterparts, all under one roof.
