Description

Ruth’s Place, established in 2003, is an emergency shelter in Wilkes-Barre serving women experiencing homelessness in Luzerne County. The program provides a safe, temporary place to stay along with support intended to promote stability and progress toward permanent housing.

Services include individualized case management, referrals, housing planning, life-skills development, educational and support groups, and connections with local social service providers. Residents may also access practical amenities such as laundry, showers, food preparation and storage areas, telephone and internet access, transportation support, food resources, and personal-care supplies.

Ruth’s Place is operated by Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania and uses a low-barrier, Housing First approach. Visit the official Ruth’s Place page to confirm current program details. Additional Pennsylvania homeless assistance resources and federal assistance resources may also help connect people with support.
